Long-lost Chaplin film bought on eBay for $5
by Sue Bailey
The Telegraph reports that one lucky buyer got more than he hoped for when he purchased a tin on eBay for just $5. Morale Park from Henham in Essex bought the tin because he liked the look of it, but inside found a fragile film which he believes to be a long-lost war propoganda film made by Charlie Chaplin.
Titled Zepped, the film shows German airships flying over England and contains outtakes from three movies that Chaplin shot with film company Essanay before 1914. An Egyptian certification dates the film to December 1916. Chaplin biographer David Robinson estimated its value to be anything between £3,000 and £40,000.
