Gumtree sign up to Get Safe Online

Gumtree have joined forces with a host of high profile companies including the government, SOCA, and PayPal as a sponsor of Get Safe Online.

Gumtree Head of Trust and Safety, Katie Kitiri said they are “committed to collaborating across the industry to help raise awareness of safety issues involved while dealing with strangers you meet online” Get Safe Online aims to do just that.

If you already trade on Gumtree you’re probably aware that transactions are generally carried out in person, rather than distance selling on marketplaces such as eBay. Gumtree already provide safety tips and recently published a video with suggestions for staying safe online when using the Gumtree site.

It has to be said that meeting someone in a dark alley with several thousand pounds in your back pocket probably isn’t the safest way to buy a car, but with a few sensible precautions Gumtree is a great site to trade on. I’ve both bought and sold on the site, and sold my old car on Gumtree in just three hours from creating the listing to pocketing the cash.

I rented my house on Gumtree and the speed of the response was amazing. I had had it advertised with a estate agent for about six weeks and got zero interest. I put it on Gumtree and within a couple of days I received worldwide enquiries (its within a mile of an original ‘red brick’ university, so is handy for mature students with children).

Four Thai girls live it it now – as a direct response from a Gumtree ad!
