Glut of banned Xbox 360 for sale on eBay

What do you do when Microsoft have banned your modded Xbox 360 from Xbox Live? Flog it on eBay appears to be the answer judging by the number of chipped Xbox 360 listings on the site.
If you’re in the market for a cheap Xbox and have no intention of playing online a banned Xbox might be the answer for you. On the other hand if you’re hoping to use Xbox Live and are bidding on a 2nd hand machine make sure you read the sellers small print and that it’s not yet another of the 1 million XBox 360s Microsoft has just banned.
Many sellers are now stating if their machine is banned in the description but not the title, if in doubt check with the seller what the status of the machine is before bidding.

Modded systems are prohibited from sale on eBay. You can’t sell any game enhancers or anything that has a secondary use of piracy.

The sad part about that is there really are legitimate uses of such systems that don’t involve piracy. XBox 360 is a very good piece of hardware for the price. PS3 gets around the issue by allowing you to install Linux on it from the start.

Sellers of these consoles are not saying “banned from xbox live” because it has been banned.
Most are only saying that to let you know that it is a chipped console without saying “it’s a chipped console” for obvoius reasons.

There is the issue of downloaded firmware updates.
How hard is it for Microsoft to embed code that checks for valid systems? Like Windows software.
… and … well …

That stuff is crazy. All those Xbox 360′s got on eBay in a hurry. I saw a bunch the other day, but didn’t think anything of it. Now I know why. I hope no poor sap got suckered into buying one of those.

ebuyerfb – Ebay’s policy is against banned systems. You can revert the mod, and sell it, under ebay’s rules. No grounds for the auctions to be pulled.

Of course you can but I bet you a penny to pound none of the listed ones have been reverted.
Ebay should pull every one of the listings.
