How nice of ebay to make the default search at the bottom of http://deals.ebay.co.uk/ to search only Toprated Sellers offering Free Postage.

Humm will not leave out most outlet sellers!

eBay is on a downward trend and those trying to turn the situation around aren't succeeding (possibly they are just trying to slow the descent).

Have a look at this http://bit.ly/2Y7B09

Daily deals aren't going to turn the sites fortunes around.

If I was in charge of the outlet team and had a look at who was on board, what stock they were selling and what leval of customer satisfaction they were giving, I would feel that I had failed.

Obviously only eBay can answer that question, but due to their expansion of Daily Deals I can only assume that they see it as an overall success. I can only comment about the real life benefits that I have seen/heard of, and both of them have been positive.

Outlet sellers will not offer the same level of service as you and I, as they will not face any repercussions from eBay in the form of violations or account suspension. eBay are not dumb and they will have known about this, obviously they feel there will be more happy customers than unhappy customers due to Daily Deals, and they will be able to attract more buyers to the site.

I know the direction that eBay are heading (clearance site and the "Amazonification" of eBay"), but there is nothing we can do. eBay are a law unto themselves and they will do whatever they feel is right.

As a seller you and I can only evolve as eBay evolves and be prepared for the next set of changes. This is why I say we need to look at streamlining ourselves and exploring other avenues of sale so that we don't get caught out.

Personally we have been doing very well but you always have to stay on your toes.

Do you have any figures to show that "Daily Deals" are bringing buyers back to eBay (overall)? Has there been an increase of page hits/sales values since "daily deals" were introduced?

eBay has always banged on about the "negative buying experience" being what drives customers away from the site. Some of the outlet sellers seem to offer a "negative buying experience".

eBay is trying to change the perception of what eBay is to a clearance/bargain online dept. store (see the marketing, see the talk from JD). I'm not convinced that this is what eBay buyers/web shoppers want. It is also not great news for sellers who are not offering the kind of stock. Still good for me though ;-)

Well Chris has highlighted one of the main reasons in this article- brings buyers back to eBay which is good for all sellers.

I personally know of a seller who has had a purchase from his eBay store because of Daily Deals. A buyer purchased a mp3 player from Daily Deals and a few days later purchased some mp3 speakers to go with their player. This is just 1 example and I believe there are many more examples like this.

My gym trainer was telling me how he bought a baby Nike suit from Littlewoods Outlet for £7.99 for his new baby niece, he thought it was a right bargain and he now browses eBay regularly.

Lino- it seems you are not convinced by Daily Deals?

Whirly- I totally agree with your point of view, and I believe small-medium sellers offer a better service than some of these big name Outlets. But these Outlets are serving a purpose which is good for eBay overall, and this is why eBay are trumping them up.

I don't disagree with anything you say.

Moaning is my life

I just happen to find it offensive that the Outlet 'Seller of the Week' has a feeback score of 98.2% and Postage DSR of 4.5. and yet eBay are happy to suggest to you, me and the public at large that they are something special and buyers will be given a fantastic service.

Frankly, I think it stinks.

I actually think Daily Deals is a good idea for a variety of reasons.

There seems to be a lot of complaining going on about Outlet sellers and how they receive preferential treatment, but let's be honest it's not exactly a big surprise is it? If your a big player within any industry then your going to get better treatment than a small player. eBay will bend over backwards for a big company like Littlewoods compared to a sole trader.

Whilst I understand small-medium sellers have worked hard to earn their stripes on eBay (I have as well), we just have to get on with it. Lets find ways of improving our businesses, become more streamlined, explore other avenues of sale, etc.

eBay is going through an evolution process, and as a seller you have to adapt as well. Change is never easy, but in business you have to manage change, be it exchange rate fluctuations, new competitor on the scene, etc.

I think it's become very clear as to the direction eBay is moving towards. I fully expect ordinary sellers to feature far less in the coming months in eBay's grand plan. Assuming that they actually have a plan.

I'm fed up with playing eBay's game of selling, and that's how it feels a lot of the time. Another and another hoop to jump through, whatever happend with just getting on with selling instead of playing these stupid games.

Yep, very insulting.

I had to earn my stripes, others just get given them and plumped on the first page and paraded like retail gods.

98.2% is crap, borderline it's only just good enough to make powerseller status.

And yet they get a jump start on all the other sellers who have been grafting away for years building a business.

Bar a few I haven't heard of half these so called brands, maybe because I live in Cornwall, I dunno.

100% agree Whirly.

Daily Deals might be getting lots of hits, but I'd be interested to know where these buyers go after that. My bet is they're not staying to browse (and buy) on eBay much...

They look great and clearly they are selling like hot cakes, so people obviously want them.

But great as they are, isn’t this just another example of ebay slowly but surely changing its shape and structure to such a degree that it’s starting to look more like an online catalogue every day.

I don’t want to sound like some sort of luddite, but do we the small and medium sellers who helped ebay establish a massive customer base really want to see ebay heading in this direction.

Every time I see this type of promotion – I feel as if ebay are nudging me ever so closer to the edge.

It just seems to me that ebay doesn’t really know where it’s going or what its doing. At one end of the scale you have ‘Deal of the Day offers’ by big outlets, and at the other end you have zillions of 99p rubbish items, with post and packing scams.

Single Cd’s with shipping shown as ‘Freight’ or ‘Collect in Person’ with a note in the body “If you cant collect postage will be £xx"

Medium sized sellers are getting dwarfed by the ‘Outlet sellers’ and swamped by zillions offering rubbish because it’s free. When you see a private seller offering 1000+ items for sale, all below 99 pence, you’ve got to wonder what’s going on.

Selling has never been so difficult

Almost all the weekly deals are given to Outlet stores.

It's just another kick in the teeth for all the hard working sellers who helped build eBay.

If any of you ain't got the message yet you won't ever get it.
