Interesting discussion ...

Can I just add a positive comment for Surface Mail if you sell in a low-risk cat? For a 2kg box, it's half the price of Airmail to territories like Oz and Canada and many buyers out there aren't fazed by the wait. Now that ebay have shortened the feedback window from 90 to 60 days, I get emails saying that the items have arrived in time for Christmas etc from very happy buyers.

Royal mail International signed for is simply a tax on your paranoia,
if a package goes missing overseas Royal Mail dont have a clue where it is
and compensation is by no means a certainty

Thanks for the mention Sue xoxox

Of course, there is also the situation of MAKING an International payment in either USD or Euro, many German sellers want payment by bank transfer (in
Euro), so we have a solution for that also ;-)

I also have a relevant eBay guide which gives a little more detail about International Payments:

Excellent advice.

Couple of things from our own experience:

Surface mail only costs a very little less than airmail in most cases, and is just not worth the hassle.

We refer to overseas bidders as "Bidders from outside the UK" as we have had the same comment from a US buyer as Sue! (I am sure that is coincidental that both were from the US... ;-) )

We have been lucky with Italy - it is South Africa that is our bete noir.

A particularly excellent tamebay post! Excellent advice! We list on ebay.com and have always welcomed international bidders, nicely profiting thereby. .Glad to see it's going to be easier for eBay UK Sellers to do likewise!
