Top Seller badge to be tested on eBay UK
17/08/2009 at 11:02
Keep a look out from next week for the new eBay Top Seller badge appearing on some item pages and in search results. This will be a test for a small amount percentage of eBay’s traffic so don’t worry if you think you should be a Top Seller and don’t see the icon on your item pages.
The full Top Seller program is due to launch in October with the new discount structure replacing the existing PowerSeller/Business Seller discount structure in January 2010.

You know its a badge to highlight good seller performance, I know its a badge to highlight good seller performance, but what will buyers think it is more importantly ?
It reads ‘eBay Top Rated Seller’ and the badge is shown in search results inbetween item title and price etc – this could mean (to buyers) the actual item for sale is an eBay Top Rated Seller’

Will buyers know that it’s only being tested on a small number of listings? Might they assume, when they view other listings, that those sellers are not ‘top rated’ even though they might well meet the new criteria?

Paul, buyers will neither notice nor care

I think that’s part of the “test”. It isn’t simply to make sure their software works and can display an image. It is also to see the reaction of buyers. Then they’ll use those statistics to promote the program.

John you can’t remove it.
Well you can – if you want to purposefully give a really poor service than you won’t qualify and won’t get the badge in the first place…..

john I imagine that it would make you a target for increased sales.
Remember all the talk of how sellers were going to be neged left, right, & center once the ability to leave a neg for a buyer was removed.

More to the point Jimbo, how many sellers still won’t/don’t leave feedback until the buyer has left feedback for them?

More to the point Chris, how many sellers still have on their listings that negs will be left for non-paying bidders?

to Chris:
Yes, you can remove from TRS but you also have to remove yourself from Powerseller program as well. I was told by Pink on eBay

Seems the Top Rates badges are showing up in my search on ebay since last night.
Its just a little badge placed between the item title and the price on search.
Inside the item page there is a further box on the top right hand side of the listing highlighting the following:
TOP RATED SELLER
Username
-Consistently receives highest buyer ratings
-Dispatches items quickly
-Has earned a track record of excellent service

I am not keen on it at all, it just clutters up the search page but then again I am someone who prefers less is better I just wish web designers would take this on board.
Hopefully it is a glitch but when searching this morning the Buy It Now badge/icon was missing in results.
