eBay is the most trusted ecommerce company

New research has just named eBay as the number one most trusted ecommerce site and second most trusted company overall after American Express.
A study by the Ponemon Institute and TRUSTe asked US consumers which companies they thought were most trustworthy and which did the best job safeguarding personal information. Out of 706 companies were named by consumers eBay was right at the top, up six places from last year jumping ahead of Amazon who are now in fourth place.
Google who were in the top 10 for two years running have now dropped out of the top 20, whilst Facebook, Yahoo! and Apple appear in the top 20 for the first time.
What’s most interesting to me is that eBay has been the number one target for phishing and fraud for many years, but have worked hard to improve user security. With steps such as concealing bidder IDs and anonymising email communications between buyers and sellers they are continually fighting to improve security and protect members privacy.
With Watchdog praising eBay in the UK and the accolade of most trusted ecommerce company in the US, the Trust and Safety team along with the Privacy team led by Scott Shipman, are reaping the rewards for their hard work.
eBay has always been the number one ecommerce destination for buyers. Now it’s also the number one ecommerce destination for protecting members privacy.

Of course, this would have nothing to do with the fact that Howard A. Schmidt, who “served as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Security Strategist for online auction giant eBay” is a Ponemon Institute Fellow.

As far as ‘trust and safety’ goes there are few companies I would trust less, and I’m not a bitter ebay hater, I make a good living from the site but I’d make far more if they weren’t incompetent fools.
I’d hazard a guess that UK consumers loose more money on ebay than any other site (regardless as to whether that money is refunded later after a fight with those other incompetent twats paypal).

I wonder if you ranked companies by trust based on whether people thought that company was going to steal from them, unexpectedly borrow from them for up to 180 days, or over bill them, how would eBay would rank?
yes it is the most trusted but the users from her arent so trusted..

been with ebay 10 years, various powerseller accounts of platinum and silver,
it never enters our head ebay steal from us, they have never once gave us a reason not to trust them
in 10 years full time listing
I agree that you if you word things just right and ask certain people you can get whatever results you want. I in no way believe that ebay beat Amazon no matter what the questions were.

#15 People make mistakes. eBay didn’t keep the fees or give any reason to leave people thinking the’d rip you off.

#17 I agree even after spending 12 months of weekly calls to get my seller rewards. A number of people on this board seem to think ebay are trying to destroy their own business.
Sure they are trying to increase their profits – name a business that isn’t.
If ebay get the balance wrong their profits will go down not up.
many moons ago when ebay loved us,
we were often offered free listing upgrades and features,
we paid in the normal way , then ebay credited our account ,
one time they credited our account by nearly £500 too much,
they contacted us to say it was their mistake and our good luck ,and they were not going to ask for it back,
needless to say they gained a loyal customer and many times this amount and more back from us over the years in fees,
so it will take some convincing us, ebay are trying to steal from us
