Not on mine there's not...

I've checked all the screens. Made sure I'm logged in. The Help page says there should be a follow button on your profile, but not on mine....

maybe I just won't bother with it then...

I think the medium of real-time updates / broadcasts is here to stay. To some people you want to announce everything you do because they're close friends or family. There's www.friendfeed.com that aggregates these kind of updates and for my immediate circle I want to read what kind of photos they uploaded (from their kids, etc.), what they bought on eBay or Amazon, etc.

The opportunity for businesses is to build (incrementally) a closer relationship (at a relatively low cost) with your customers. Share coupons, blog posts, new products, etc.

It's all permission-based anyway so it's easy to opt-out.

Geeks? Oh! You mean like the founder of eBay who after almost three years between blog posts decided to twitter about what he was getting up to instead? ;-)

That's one geek I'm grateful too... imagine a world without eBay for us all to make money on!

Thanks Max! I've had a personal Twitter for about a year and to be honest, never saw the point: I'd post stuff like "I've gone to the post office" and people would still email/Skype/phone me going "where are you?"

Then yesterday I found Twitter Feeds, which seemed quite a useful tool - or at least, just another way to let people pick up the blog, which I can't complain about. I think it's like RSS - if that's the way that works for you, then it's a good way to get information. Doesn't work for everyone, obviously, but then what does.

Welcome to Twitter! This may have legs and has a number of "geeks" already using it to provide real-time updates. The best example I have seen to-date is Dell sending coupon codes via Twitter.

There are a number of good tools around this already, one of the most interesting is www.tweetscan.com which is a search engine against Twitter posts, essentially a means to monitor if someone's mentioning you, and in what context.
