Paypal down all day

PayPal appears to have had intermittent problems for most of today. It’s not unexpected on a Friday morning for eBay and PayPal to have a few glitches, it’s the time of week they run maintenance on the site. However twelve hours later PayPal still isn’t accessible, buyers can’t pay sellers, sellers can’t access their account to see which buyers have paid. It’s not just affecting eBay payments either – retailers that use PayPal on their website are also reporting failed payments.

eBay have now announced not once, but twice on the Canadian General Announcements Board that they’re aware of the problem and working to rectify it. Sadly the rest of the world is still in blissful ignorance wondering what’s going on.

Auctionbytes has reported the issues are fixed, as has the .com system board.

Sadly all functionality still hasn’t been resolved (eg PayPal history tab) and a further announcement has been made that they’re working on the problem again!

So problems started before 9.00am this morning and eventually resolved at 23.45pm…. Not a good day for PayPal :-(

history.paypal.com ( accessing all account activity) is broken.

[...] PayPal is investing heavily in new hardware and technology and this is the reason their service failed for many hours on June 1st this year. It was during an upgrade to new quadruple redundant servers on a new operating system that the glitch affected payments. The upgrade was needed to support the $1500 per second processed across 190 different countries that PayPal now operate in. [...]

[...] Well I appear to be able to access my account but according to the announcement board some members may be finding difficulties. It was only the 1st June that PayPal last had access problems which Rajiv Dutta apologised for at eBay Live! explaining that it was caused by a site upgrade. [...]
